Mary McDonnell

 

Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28 1952) is an American stage, film, and television actress. Her parts in Dances with Wolves, Stands With A Fist and Passion Fish were rewarded with Academy Award nominations. McDonnell is most famous for her performances as First Lady Marilyn Whitmore in Independence Day and President Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica. McDonnell was the Captain Sharon Raydor on seasons 5-7 of TNT's series The Closer. She also played in Major Crimes, the spin-off series of TNT's network, as the Commander Sharon Raydor.
